Aaron Fenster named to Order of Ontario

Congratulations to Aaron Fenster, PhD, who has been appointed to the Order of Ontario – the province’s highest honour.

The Order of Ontario honours individuals whose exceptional achievements have left a lasting legacy in the province, in Canada, and beyond.

Fenster, Scientist at Robarts Research Institute and a Professor in Medical Biophysics at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, is being recognized as a leader in medical imaging.

“I am honoured to be named to the Order of Ontario,” Fenster said. “Although I will receive this honour, my staff and students deserve all the credit.”

Recognized by the International Organization of Medical Physics as one of 50 physicists who has made the most outstanding contributions over the past 50 years, Fenster has contributed to a broad range of imaging, including 3D ultrasound and image-guided interventions. His methods of 3D ultrasound imaging of the prostate have been licensed to a large number of imaging companies, indicating a global consensus on the impact of his work.

Fenster’s current research goals focus on developing imaging systems that are more accurate and less costly.

“There are significant unmet clinical needs that need to be addressed in the management of cancer and other diseases,” Fenster explained. “In addition, there is a critical need to develop cost-effective solutions to many diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.”

Since its establishment in 1986, 706 people have been invested with the Order of Ontario.

The Lieutenant Governor will bestow the honour upon the newest appointees during an investiture ceremony at Queen's Park on March 11.
