Branding and Graphic Standards

Branding 101

A brand is more than just a logo and a colour. A brand includes everything from the design, look and feel of communications and marketing pieces to the words and phrases used to describe an organization. On the whole, a brand helps identify one organization from another.

Brand awareness involves an external audience’s ability to recall and recognize a brand. To increase brand awareness, all materials produced by an organization should have a similar look, tone, feel and design.

Graphic standards provide support for professionals creating communications materials that represent Robarts Research Institute as part of The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Western University.

To view our graphic standards, download the Quick Reference Guide.

If you require assistance with any Robarts branding or stationery orders, please contact Communications.

Robarts Research Institute is represented as part of The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Western University. The Robarts logo should be placed in between the horizontal Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and Western University logos.

Logos for Robarts, Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and Western are available via the Visual Identity Toolkit. Note, you will need your Western username and password to login.

Branded Templates

In an effort to help all our faculty, staff and trainees better adhere to the brand standards, we've created a number of pre-branded templates for use. These include a variety of business templates, Power Point slides, and research and event posters.

Stationary and Business Cards

Robarts Research Institute's official stationery provider is the DATA Group of Companies. Stationery should be ordered using the Mustang Market login to direct you to DATA's online ordering system. A Western username and password are required to login to the system.

The following items are standardized and ready to order through the online ordering system:

  • Standard Robarts Business Cards
  • Standard Robarts Envelopes

Please note, when ordering through the online system, a PDF preview of your order will appear toward the end of the ordering process. This PDF is your final chance for approval. Please take the time at this step to carefully read over the information you have included on the card to ensure accuracy and spelling.

Lab Coat Orders

There is a standard for Robarts-specific lab coats, as well as a process for placing orders.

All lab coats must include the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Western University and Robarts Research Institute logos.

Download a visual example of how the logos must appear on the lab coat, including embroidery guidelines.

The preferred supplier for lab coats is McCabe Promotional. If you choose to work with McCabe, Communications must approve a digital mock-up of the coat and branding before the order is processed.

If you choose to work with another supplier, Communications must also approve an embroidery sample in addition to the digital mock-up. Note, there is an additional cost for embroidery samples.
