Congratulations to Rubai Zhou
Robarts Trainee Rubai Zhou is using brain images from MRI to get a better picture of what determines social function and working memory in patients with depression.
Her work recently won her the Jock Cleghorn Prize at the Annual Meeting of the Canadian College of Neurospychpharmacology (CCNP) in Vancouver, B.C.
This prize recognizes the best poster presentation by a research trainee (graduate student or clinical resident or postdoc) in the field of psychiatric and neurological pharmacology.
“I feel very honoured to be chosen for this National level honour in Canada,” said Zhou who is a joint PhD Candidate at Shanghai JiaoTong University School of Medicine and Schulich Medicine & Dentistry at Western University. “I feel very inspired after meeting many prominent researchers and getting a lot of interest from both neuroscientists and clinicians at the CCNP annual meeting.”
Zhou has been working as a trainee in Dr. Lena Palaniyappan’s lab at Robarts Research Institute and will return to Shanghai in the fall to continue her work.
She says she is keen to incorporate the important skills and knowledge that she gained at Robarts into her research, and hopes to continue to study whether the neural basis of cognitive functions in mood disorders can help with the differential diagnosis of unipolar and bipolar depression.
