Lena Palaniyappan receives Young Investigator Award
Robarts scientist Dr. Lena Palaniyappan received the 2017 Young Investigator Award from the Canadian College of Neuropsychopharmacology (CCNP).
The award recognizes outstanding contributions in neuropsychopharmacology by a young basic scientist or clinical investigator in Canada. Recipients must be engaged in high quality neuropsychopharmacological research.“I feel extremely inspired looking at the achievements of prior recipients of this award,” said Dr. Palaniyappan. “Many of them have gone on to change the way we think about brain and mind.”
As the recipient of this award, Dr. Palaniyappan will receive a $2,000 honorarium to attend the CCNP Annual Meeting in June to present his research as an invited speaker. He will also be invited to submit a review article to the Journal of Psychiatry and Neuroscience
The researcher hopes the award and London's reputation as leader in imaging research will inspire young trainees.
“London can be easily called the neuroimaging capital of Canada. My team uses a variety of neuroimaging tools available at Robarts Research Institute and Lawson Health Research Institute to study the mechanisms of symptom formation in psychosis,” explained Dr. Palaniyappan. “I hope this award will encourage more psychiatry residents to take an interest in neuroimaging as the discovery platform for the next generation of therapeutics.”
