Dean's Research Initiative Grant recognizes innovation

Dr. Neil Duggal is on of the newest recipients of the Dean's Research Initiative Grant.

Dr. Duggal is an associate scientist at Robarts and associate professor in the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences. Through the Initiative, he will receive $110,180 in funding for his project entitled, “Integrated Program for the Assessment of Therapeutic Interventions to Enhance Recover in Non-traumatic Spinal Cord Injury (TIERS)".

"We have submitted proposals since the Initiative's inception, learning each year how to improve our grant and fine tune our research questions and the necessary members of the team to ensure success," Dr. Duggal explained. "Ultimately, we hope our findings from this project will be translated to patient imaging assessments, management algorithms and rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury. Although the proposed project will focus on reversible spinal cord injury, it will act as a platform from which other neurological disorders can also be assessed."

Schulich Medicine & Dentistry’s Dean's Research Initiative Grant is intended to fund teams building programs that represent true innovation by enabling multiple departments to work together toward a tangible advance in education, research or health care. The programs must be related to the School’s strategic direction.

The goal of the Initiative is to fund projects that will deliver results that will put Schulich Medicine & Dentistry on the map, in the short- and long-term.
