Student Profile
Erin Mulvihill, 4th year PhD
Under the leadership of scientist Murray Huff, PhD, Erin is identifying pathways inside liver cells that promote an increased export of cholesterol-containing lipoproteins, which remain in the blood stream too long. By modifying these pathways, she’s discovered that naturally occurring compounds, called flavonoids, greatly reduce the amount of lipoproteins secreted from liver cells – a reduction that could, in turn, significantly reduce the risk of heart disease.
