Why I Became a Scientist

Discovery and Innovation are key factors that could change the course of what we do and how we do it. It motivates opportunities that are important to our future and solving problems. Being a scientist and teacher allows one to contribute to this endeavour and pass on the knowledge to others.

Research Summary

The focus of our laboratory is to develop specific immune-based approaches to investigate the regulation of autoimmunity by understanding the molecular, cellular and genetic basis of the T cell-mediated immune responses. Towards this goal we investigate Mechanism of Disease prevention and Tissue regeneration in autoimmune diabetes and the role that microbes and infections play in shaping our immune system. 

Research Questions

How body’s immune cells are activated by infections and microbes?

Vaccines, Transplantation, Infection control

How we can stop the immune cells to destroy body’s own tissues in autoimmune diseases?

Prevention of autoimmune diseases such as diabetes, arthritis and cardiovascular diseases

Can body self heal from using its own cells during autoimmune diseases?

Regeneration of tissues and cells in diabetes and for transplantation
