Equipment

  • One Applied Biosystems 3730 Analyzer
  • Three ABI GeneAmp 9700 Thermocyclers
  • One Applied Biosystems 7900-HT Real-Time System

Services Provided

  • Fluorescent DNA Sequencing of Plasmids, PCR products, Cosmids, lambda phage, and BACs, including editing of raw data
  • Consultations for difficult templates
  • Mutation Detection (heterozygous and homozygous polymorphisms)
  • SNP Analysis
  • Fragment Analysis
  • Primer Walking
  • Contig Assembly
  • Consensus Sequence Generation
  • Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA)
  • Please contact the Sequencing Facility or Dr. Hegele for more information about the services listed above

Process

  • Samples should be dropped off at Robarts Research Institute Room 4212 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Samples should be placed in the Styrofoam chest and request forms placed on the table just outside of the Sequencing Facility. Please note that we now require all templates to be premixed with the custom primer of choice prior to submission
  • Alternatively, samples can be sent via intercampus mail from any institute in London, Ontario. Samples from external sources should be shipped via Fed-Ex or Purolator
  • A fully completed request form is required for samples to be processed
  • When reactions have been completed the Sequencing Facility will email both your sequence files (simple text) and electropherogram files (AB1 files). Included in your email will be an approximate time when your print outs of the electropherograms will be ready. Electropherograms from external sources will be mailed via Canada Post

Policies

  • All samples are processed on a first come first served basis
  • Laboratories are charged for all reactions (including failed reactions) as long as there are no technical problems encountered on that run. Periodic repeats of failed reactions are performed to confirm the results
  • As of February 2000 all results have been archived permanently
