A 3 year Postdoctoral Fellowship position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Michael J. Strong at Robarts Research Institute, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Western Ontario, London, Canada. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2010.
Requirements:
-PhD in Molecular Biology (or equivalent)
-Minimum 2 years postdoctoral experience
-Demonstrated expertise in microRNA investigation including (but not limited to): microarray analysis, microRNA isolation techniques, standardization of miRNA expression for qualitative studies, in situ hybridization, gel shift assays, Northern blotting (including non-radioactive techniques) and qRT-PCR.
-Experience with cell culture and assessment of miRNA effects in culture is required.
Assets:
-Experience with immunohistochemical techniques, laser cell capture, confocal and light microscopy, siRNA applications and transfection/infections of mammalian cell lines.
Position Description:
This will be a contract position for a term of 3 years at the Postdoctoral Fellow level.
The successful candidate will examine the role of miRNA in modulating mRNA stability and effects on RNA metabolism in human motor neurons in neuropathologically intact and ALS affected cases.
