SEPTEMBER 21-23, 2011 - Oakwood Resort & Conference Centre

We need to learn more about how to make a difference in helping people understand Epilepsy and end the fear, stigma and discrimination that epilepsy causes.

Take a stand for the millions of people who live with the uncertainty of seizures.

What is CERI and how does the meeting work?

First, CERI was organized in 2001 by a group of basic scientists and clinicians, as a research section of the Canadian League against Epilepsy (CLAE) in order to advance the understanding and treatment of epilepsy.

Our 5th Scientific Meeting held in Alymer, Quebec had the theme of "Translational Research in Epilepsy", while the theme "Controversies in Epilepsy". The format and the theme of the 10th Scientific Meeting will be determined after we receive your suggestions.

We encourage everyone to stay on site in order to facilitate networking betweeen all attendees.

The plan is to start the meeting on Tuesday evening with a Reception/Dinner followed by a Plenary Talk or Workshop. Wednesday/Thursday is a full day of workshops where teams of presenters lead discussions on their topics of interest. Late Saturday afternoon is an opportunity for poster presentations. Friday continues with presentations and the meeting wraps up at Noon. In each workshop we often have a mix of basic scientists, health care providers and students. We encourage the topics to have a large scope but understandable to wide range of people.

Who attends the CERI Retreats? It is a diverse mix of basic scientists, clinicians, graduate students, advocates and other health professionals. This coming retreat will be preceded by a meeting of the Canadian Epilepsy Alliance (CEA), an advocacy group devoted to the improvement of epilepsy patient care.

What should you do now? As explained above, provide your suggestion by May 1, 2011 by emailing Dr. Mike Poulter at mpoulter@robarts.ca.

Finally, costs for this meeting will be kept low; we are raising funds to subsidize costs and we budget to break even. Some funds may be available to offset the travel costs of speakers.

We hope to see you in September 2011!

Thank you for your interest.
