August 19, 2009 - Robarts scientist Sean Cregan, PhD, is the recipient of an Early Researcher Award ($140,000) from the Government of Ontario. Cregan studies the mechanisms of cell death that contribute to the loss of brain function in stroke and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease.
In total, the Province is providing $11.5 million to support 82 emerging researchers and their teams at 21 institutions across Ontario. The Early Researcher Awards program will support the work of 338 researchers and will ensure leading Ontario researchers have the resources they need to build their research teams. The funding will also help create jobs for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants, associates and technicians from across Canada and abroad.
