Under the scientific direction of Dr. Arthur Brown, The Animal Care Facility at Robarts is a unit that can currently house up to 1,000 mice and 100 rats. This facility adheres to strict barrier procedures in order to ensure the health status (pathogen free) of the animals. Animals housed in the facility are rederived in, transferred from barrier facilities or purchased in from an approved commercial supplier. Each animal order is accompanied by a health reports provided by the commercial supplier. If there are any concerns with the shipment at the time of arrival the shipment is refused.
With registered Veterinary Technicians/CALAS registered technicians on staff working under strict set of Standard Operating Procedures, the facility offers a wide range of services including blood sampling, inbreeding and outbreeding strategy guidance and lineage tracking.
