TRANSDISCIPLINARY TRAINING IN BIOLOGY, PHYSICS, AND ENGINEERING:
Towards an Understanding and Prevention of Vascular Disease

Welcome to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Strategic Training Program in Vascular Research in Ontario, Canada. This program is partnered by Robarts Research Institute, the University of Western Ontario, and the University of Waterloo.

Ultrasound Workshop
Thursday November 27th 2008
4:30-6:30pm
in the Physics & Astronomy Building,
Room PAB 304

This hands on workshop was given by Dr. Tamie Poepping and her students on the evening of November 27th 2008. Students moved between three different stations teaching different aspects of how ultrasound works and got to measure their own carotid arteries and how to calculate the blood flow within them. They also had to measure and identify two mystery objects embedded in cryogel!

Workshop on Intracardiac Surgery.  Presentations by Dr. Doug Jones (Physiologist, UWO), Dr. Gerard Guiraudon (Cardiac Surgeon), Dr. Terry Peters (Imaging Scientist, Robarts), and Dr. Dan Bainbridge (Interventional Radiologist). This workshop was videorecorded.

Congratulations to our two winners of the Poster Competition for the CIHR Strategic Training Program in Vascular Research
April 8th 2008

Jessica Esseltine, whose poster entitled "Regulation of Angiotensin II Type I Receptor by RabGTPases" won the Best Integration of Physical Sciences in Biology category, and

Christiane Mallett, who won in the category, Best Integration of Biology in the Physical Sciences for her poster entitled "Longitudinal Measurement of Atherosclerosis in Diabetic Nephropathy"
